What Is A Digital Chart Recorder?

Paperless recorder working principle

The paperless recorder is mainly composed of industrial special microprocessor, A/D converter, read-only memory ROM, random memory RAM, display controller, liquid crystal display, keyboard controller, alarm circuit, clock circuit and other parts.

The paperless recorder is based on a single-chip microprocessor. Collect and process various data. The recorded data can be sent to the random memory RAM for storage. Or send it to the LCD display for display. It can also be zoomed in or out as needed. To facilitate the operator to observe the status of the recorded signal.

At the same time, the recorded signal can be compared with the set upper and lower limit signals. Once the limit is exceeded, an alarm signal will be issued.

The A/D converter converts the analog quantity from the recorded signal into a digital quantity for the CPU to perform arithmetic processing.

The read-only memory ROM is used to solidify the program. After turning on the power, the ROM program can make the CPU work.

Random memory RAM is used to store historical data processed by the CPU. Depending on the sampling time, the data can be stored for several days to several decades. It has a backup power supply to ensure that all recorded data and configuration signals will not be lost due to power failure.

The data in the CPU can be displayed on the LCD screen via the display controller. Generally, it can be displayed on a 7-inch or 10.2-inch color LCD touch screen.

The operator makes various settings by operating the keys or the touch screen. The signal is transmitted to the CPU, so that the CPU works according to the requirements of the operator.

When the recorded data exceeds the limit, the CPU sends a signal to the alarm circuit in time to generate an alarm output. The function of the clock circuit is to generate the recording time interval, time stamp or date required by the recorder and transmit it to the CPU.

In addition, the paperless recorder is also equipped with a print controller and a communication controller. The data in the CPU can be connected to external miniature printers and personal computers through them. Realize data printing and communication.

Flow totalizer working principle

The flow totalizer is composed of four parts: measurement loop, digital panel meter, regulator and power supply.

The stabilized power supply converts the 220V power supply into a stable DC voltage as the other part of the power supply.

The measurement loop processes the signal (voltage, current, etc.) sent by the flow transmitter into a voltage signal.

After A/D conversion, the signal is sent to a dedicated central processing unit for processing. Not only to the digital panel meter but also to the regulator. After comparing with the set value, it outputs a control or alarm signal according to the regulation rule.

The flow totalizer is used to measure the instantaneous flow of liquid or solid in the industrial field.

The signal output by the flowmeter is generally a pulse signal or a 4-20mA current signal, both of which output instantaneous flow. Our purpose is to calculate and display the instantaneous flow value and calculate the cumulative value in the PLC.

When the input signal is a pulse signal, when calculating the instantaneous flow rate, it must be calculated in strict time intervals to ensure the accuracy of the instantaneous flow rate.

Therefore, the calculation of instantaneous flow must be done with a timed interrupt. Moreover, only this one interrupt program can be run in the PLC system, and no other interrupts are allowed (even low-priority interrupts are not allowed to run). To prevent interference with the accuracy of the time interval of the timing interruption.

Calculating the instantaneous flow rate is to convert the number of accumulated pulses in this time period into the accumulated flow rate. Divided by time is the instantaneous flow.

For 4-20mA input, the instantaneous flow can be directly obtained by simply converting according to its corresponding range. The cumulative flow is to add up the cumulative flow in each time period.

In the actual use of PLC programming, the following issues must be paid attention to:

(1) Whether the input pulse frequency range exceeds the receiving range of the PLC;
(2) How to ensure correct calculation when the PLC high-speed counter reaches the maximum count value;
(3) How to ensure that the timing interruption is not disturbed;
(4) How to avoid errors in calculating the cumulative amount;
(5) The maximum cumulative digits of the cumulative amount;
(6) How to reset the totalizer.

Totalizer vs Flow Meter

A pure totalizer is not a flow meter.

Usually, flow meters measure instantaneous flow. If you need to know the total amount of flow, you need to use a totalizer.

A complete flow detection system includes several parts such as sensing, transmission, calculation, integration, display, etc. Each part can be an independent instrument. It is also possible to integrate several functions into one watch.

Many flow totalizers on the market now integrate calculation, totalization, and display. It includes most of the functions of the flow system. Paperless recorder working principle

A recorder is an instrument that converts the process of one or more variables over time or another variable into recognizable and readable signals. It can save the recorded signal changes for analysis and processing. The biggest feature of the recorder is that it can automatically record the slow change process and transient level change process of periodic or non-periodic multi-channel signals.

According to the types of input and output signals, recorders can be divided into analog-digital, digital-analog, analog-analog, digital-digital and other forms. Their main circuit varies according to the output form.

When the output is a digital signal, its main circuit is a memory circuit that can store digital information. It can send digital signals to tape drives, punchers or other equipment at any time. Or observe the analog waveform with an oscilloscope after proper conversion, such as digital memory and waveform memory.

When the output is an analog signal, the main circuit of the recorder is an analog amplifier drive circuit without storage function. What is a digital chart recorder?

Industrial digital chart recorders refers to an electronic instrument that remotely displays and counts signals such as pressure, temperature, flow, and liquid level in the industry.

Digital chart recorders record the collected data/calculated data in the internal storage system of the instrument with time as the base axis. Digital chart recorder for pressure testing

The input signals of the paperless recorder are all “universal” full-switching signals, and can input standard analog signals 4~20MA, 1~5V, 0-20MA, 0~5V, 0~10V, etc. Generally, the output signal of the pressure transmitter is a passive signal of 4-20MA signal.
